Runed Celtic Ring

The Compact Beneath the Hall

The Fenrisheim Oath Ring is a 925 sterling silver ring with a rotatable woven band — Viking in origin, unisex, sizes 2 through 7. The outer band turns. Before you understand what the ring is, you need to understand what it is built on top of.

Before the Hall of the Three Oaths. Before Halvard Ironweave. Before the skalds had words for any of it — there was a civilization in Fenrisheim. Celtic and Norse in origin. They arrived at the tree line with empty hands and waited for the pack to decide. The pack let them in. This has not happened since, for anyone who came in numbers or with weapons or with the intention of mastering what they found.

They lived in the Expanse as equals with the wild wolf. Not masters. Not servants. Not tamers. They hunted together. They fought together. The wolves ran where they chose and the people moved alongside them — not following, not leading. The only human civilization in the long history of Fenrisheim to have achieved this. The pack accepted them as something the language of that era did not have a word for. Partners is close. Equals is closer. Neither is quite right.

When it ended — as all things end — what remained was not ruins but memory. Pressed into the earth. Pressed into metal. The knotwork, the carved stone, the woven-band rings left at the roots of the great timber trees as offerings and gratitude. The pack kept them. They are still in the earth of Fenrisheim. Some found their way into the hands of Halvard's people when the Hall was built — the Hall did not invent the woven pattern. It inherited it. The Hall's oaths were sworn on ground that had already been consecrated by a civilization that understood the wolf before the Norse had a theology to put around that understanding.

Luna knew this when she went to the Hall. She knows most things about Fenrisheim that she has not explained and will not explain — the fairy lineage carries it, the blood memory of the compact, the instinctive understanding of pack behavior that she has never needed to account for because the pack has never required her to. She completed the trials. The pack knows her on sight. This is not entirely earned through effort. Some of it is older than effort.

The ring was at the bench near the forge. The woven band — the pattern the ancient people pressed into metal as covenant, that Halvard's smiths relearned as tradition, that the pack approved for release through the portal — was precise in the way that Fenrisheim metalwork is precise. Not decorative precision. Functional precision. The precision of something made to carry the weight of a sworn thing across generations, across the end of the civilization that first made it, across the centuries the pack spent running the Expanse alone, across the Hall's construction on top of the consecrated ground, all the way to the bench near the forge where Luna found it and turned the outer band with her thumb and felt every layer of it at once.

The Fenrisheim people did not make fidget rings. They made remembrance rings. The rotation is the mechanism of remembrance — turn it when you need to feel the weight of what you swore, to keep the oath present in the body rather than only in the mind. The woven pattern is the record of something interlocked: many threads, each dependent on the others. Pull one loose and the whole thing changes. This is what they understood about promises that the rest of the world has mostly forgotten.

Cinder was at the entrance to the Hall when she came out. He looked at the ring. He looked at her face. He fell into step beside her without comment — which is how Cinder says I know what that is and I know what it cost and I am not going to make you explain it. Ash materialized from near the standing stones and pressed her flank against Luna's leg for exactly three steps, her chaos completely still, and then peeled off to investigate the rune at the base of the largest stone that is older than the stone itself. She noted it. She moved on.

Midnight was on the rooftop when they came through. He looked at the ring for a long time. He rumbled once — low, slow, the rumble of recognition. He has been watching Fenrisheim from altitude since before the ancient people arrived at the tree line. He watched the compact form. He watched it end. He watched the pack run the Expanse alone for centuries. He watched Halvard's people build the Hall on the consecrated ground. He is not going to explain what he knows about the woven band. He tilted his great head. He did not elaborate. He never does.

The ring is 925 sterling silver. The outer band rotates. Sizes 2 through 7. Eleven patterns, each one a different expression of the same principle — many threads, interlocked, holding because every part holds. The ancient people made the first ones. Halvard's smiths relearned the pattern. The pack approved the release. Luna brought them through. The compact is still in the metal. Turn it when you need to remember.

The great timber trees are still at their roots in the Expanse. The offerings the ancient people left are still in the earth. The pack is still running the territory. The Hall is still standing on the consecrated ground. The bench near the forge still has things on it that are waiting. The rune at the base of the largest standing stone is still older than the stone itself, and Ash is the only one who has noticed, and she has moved on. What carries all of that history is here.

What is the Fenrisheim Oath Ring?
A 925 sterling silver ring with a rotatable woven band. The woven pattern predates the Hall of the Three Oaths — it was first made by the ancient Celtic and Norse civilization that lived in Fenrisheim as equals with the wolf pack. Halvard's smiths inherited the pattern. The pack approved its release. Sizes 2–7, 11 patterns.

Who were the ancient people of Fenrisheim?
A Celtic and Norse civilization who arrived at the tree line with empty hands and waited for the pack to decide. The pack let them in. They lived as equals with the wild wolf — not masters, not servants. When they left, they pressed their offerings into the earth at the roots of the great timber trees. The pack kept them. The woven band is one of those patterns.

What does the rotating band mean?
The Fenrisheim people made remembrance rings — the outer band turns so the wearer can feel the weight of what they swore in moments when they need to remember. The woven pattern is the record of something interlocked: many threads, each dependent on the others. Pull one loose and the whole thing changes.

What is Luna's connection to Fenrisheim?
Luna completed the wolf pack trials — the only non-wolf known to have done so. Her ease in Fenrisheim is not entirely earned through effort. The fairy lineage carries blood memory of the ancient compact. The pack knows her on sight. She has never explained this. She has never needed to.

Is this real sterling silver?
Yes — 925 sterling silver. Polish with a soft cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to water and chemicals.
