What the Glass Shop Makes at Night

Ironspire has a glassblower. The shop has no sign — it doesn’t need one. The light it puts into the street at night is enough. Luna found it the way she finds most things in that city: by following the wrong street deliberately and seeing what it had. She has been back twice since. She has not explained why.

Luna found it on a flat stone at the edge of the mist line, where things that have passed through the threshold sometimes leave themselves behind. The engraving was already done. The planchette was in the center as if someone had just stepped away. She asked one question. She does not say what the answer was.

The Question It Actually Answers

The pendulum doesn’t answer questions you don’t already carry the answer to. It answers the ones you’ve been avoiding. Chelle learned this from one of the older keepers at the edge of the crystal rain system, who had been working with stones long enough that she’d stopped being surprised by what they said.

The Hidden Mist Valley dresses its guests. The Silken Court has opinions about what gets worn in their valley — and what gets worn everywhere else Chelle goes after. She wore one to the Sunrise Steppes. The Cougar at the Becoming Places tilted its head like it wasn’t sure what it was seeing was real.
