The shutter was halfway down when Luna spotted The Thornfire Heart, a silver-tone gothic heart choker offered with flame-shaped links or a barbed-wire-style chain. Its open heart spread into sharp, sweeping points, a small cross-shaped detail held at its center. Behind it, somebody was trying to close an Ironspire workshop with everything still inside.

“We’re finished,” the woman beneath the shutter said.

Luna put one boot under the descending edge.

“You’re catching your stock.”

A display cord had looped around the shutter’s lower hook. Another turn of the crank would drag the necklaces into the mechanism.

The woman looked down. Stopped winding.

Somewhere beyond the roofs, the Great Forge struck its next enormous note. The sound came through the soles of Luna’s boots. Here, in the narrow streets below the forge district, even closing time happened to the rhythm of somebody else’s hammer.

“Lift,” Luna said.

“It won’t.”

She looked at the crooked shutter, then at the woman’s hands.

“When did you last oil that?”

“When did you last mind your business?”

Luna smiled.

Finally. Someone reasonable.

She crouched, took the display’s weight in one hand, and worked the cord loose with the other. The flame-link necklace slid across her palm, each little tongue of metal turning independently. Beside it hung the second version: twisted, thorn-like links leading to the same fierce heart.

Not two pendants. Two ways of reaching the same one.

“Pass those here,” the woman said.

Luna did. Then she stood, planted both hands beneath the shutter, and pushed.

It moved three inches with a shriek that made a passing porter swear.

“Lovely voice,” Luna said.

“You should hear it in winter.”

The woman wedged a wooden block beneath it. With room to work, Luna could see what had happened. A bent strip of metal had slipped into the runner, jamming the shutter crooked. She braced the frame while the woman eased it free with pliers.

The strip came loose suddenly.

The shutter dropped onto the block.

They both stood still.

Then the woman looked at Luna’s boot, which she had withdrawn just in time.

“Good reflexes.”

“Expensive boots.”

The workshop opened again for approximately six minutes.

Inside were trays, tools, a cold cup of something Luna declined to identify, and a stool whose fourth leg had been repaired with considerably more confidence than accuracy. The woman laid both chokers on a dark cloth.

“Which?”

Luna touched the flame links. Their cutout shapes carried the design all the way around, bright edges and dark spaces, movement repeating movement.

Then the thorned chain. Narrower. More spare. The heart looked almost defiant at its center.

“Both.”

“For yourself?”

“For a shop.”

The woman glanced at Luna’s jewelry, her black clothes, the chain at her hip.

“Of course.”

Luna paid the asking price. The woman counted it, removed two coins, and pushed them back.

“For the shutter.”

“Buy oil.”

She pushed them back again.

The woman studied her, then dropped the coins into a separate jar beneath the bench.

“Oil,” she agreed.

Outside, the market lamps were coming on. Luna walked past the turning that led toward District 9, where she had learned long ago that a chain could tell you plenty about the person wearing it. Tonight, for once, she had acquired hers without crossing a rooftop gap or refusing to explain a bruise.

She was rather pleased about that.

At Pedlar’s Attic, Chelle found her arranging the two chokers beneath the display lamp.

“A quiet trip?”

“Extremely.”

Chelle glanced at the fresh scrape across Luna’s knuckle.

“Shutter,” Luna said.

“Did it deserve it?”

Luna looked up.

Chelle was already smiling.

She put the flame-link version beside the thorned one and turned both hearts toward the glass. Two different tempers. Neither pretending to be gentle.

Both leaving the center open.

Ironspire has plenty of hard edges. Luna still knows where to find a heart.

About This Piece

The Thornfire Heart is a gothic punk choker with a silver-tone finish, a sharply contoured open-heart centerpiece, and a small cross-shaped detail. Choose flame-shaped links for a continuous, flowing statement or barbed-wire-style links for a leaner, thorned look.

  • Chain choices: Flame links or barbed-wire-style links. Select your preferred design; the two photographs do not indicate a two-necklace set.
  • Finish: Silver-tone. A specific base metal, sterling silver content, and hypoallergenic properties have not been verified.
  • Fastening: Clasp with an extension chain, as shown in the product photographs.
  • Fit: Adjustable through the extension chain. Exact necklace length and adjustment range are not confirmed.
  • Style: Gothic, punk, alternative, and Y2K-inspired jewelry for any gender, subject to fit.
  • Care: Keep dry, avoid perfume and cleaning chemicals, and wipe gently with a soft cloth. Store separately to keep the shaped links from tangling with other jewelry.

Questions from the Display Case

What is the difference between the two chain designs?

One uses flat, flame-shaped links. The other uses twisted barbed-wire-style links. Both feature the same open-heart centerpiece with its small cross-shaped detail. Match your selection to the variant photograph.

Does the order include both necklaces?

This listing offers two design options. Choose the individual style you want rather than assuming that both necklaces are included.

Is this a leather choker?

No leather band is shown. This design uses a linked chain with a silver-tone appearance.

Is it sterling silver or stainless steel?

Neither material has been verified for this listing. Silver-tone describes its appearance, not precious-metal content or a confirmed alloy.

Can anyone wear it?

The design is suited to any gender. Fit depends on your neck measurement and the necklace’s usable length; an extension chain does not guarantee a fit for every neck size.

Where does its story belong?

In Ironspire, the forge city in the fictional world of Pedlar’s Attic. Luna’s workshop encounter joins the city’s existing stories of sharp-edged jewelry, difficult streets, and the people who make things worth bringing home.
