The Attic doesn't always explain itself.
Sometimes a crate arrives through the portal with no note, no origin, no indication of where it came from or who sent it. This was one of those times. Chelle found the box near the back of the display floor on a Tuesday morning, stacked neatly as if it had always been there — as if the Attic had simply decided it was time and arranged things accordingly. She opened it and found them folded in rows. The Bone Chorus Skull Graphic Tee — a loose, unisex Harajuku-style tee in lightweight silky polyester featuring a vivid skull graphic in seven colorways, sizes XS through 6XL — had arrived from somewhere in the Under-Reach, and the Under-Reach had not seen fit to include a return address.
Seven colorways. Each one a different conversation between darkness and color. Each one the same skull — rendered with enough anatomical precision that it holds up close and from across the room, the kind of detail that makes you understand the skull is not a symbol of ending but a record. The most honest thing a body ever produces. Everything else is performance. The bone is what remains when the story is finished and the truth of it can finally be read.
Chelle pulled one out and held it up. The fabric was lighter than she expected — lightweight and silky, the Harajuku weave that moves with you rather than against you, moisture-wicking and breathable, the kind of shirt that disappears on the body in the best possible way. The print was vivid and sharp, locked into the fabric with the kind of permanence that doesn't crack or peel or fade after washing. She ran her thumb across the graphic. Clean. Precise. Present.
Luna came in from the street and stopped when she saw the spread across the counter. “Where did those come from?”
“The portal,” Chelle said. “No note.”
Luna picked up the darkest colorway and turned it over once. Looked at the skull. Looked at Chelle. “Some things don't need an introduction.” She set it back down. “Price them and put them out. They'll find who they belong to.”
They always do.
The Under-Reach keeps its own records. The Bone Chorus is one of them. Read the full story of how these arrived: The Echoes of the Ashen Plains. And if you want to know what Luna found when she went deeper into the Wastes: The Bone Sovereign.
