The Observatory Seal — Solomon Star & Zodiac Constellation Necklace

There is a place in the Aether-Reach where the mist clears in a circle overhead — not because the weather changes, but because the Aether-Reach is the place between places, and at the precise point where the veil is thinnest, the sky above is not quite either world's sky. It is both. The stars visible from that clearing do not match any chart on either side of the portal. They are older than the charts. They were being read before anyone thought to write them down.

The observatory — if it can be called that, which is debatable, since it was not built by anyone currently willing to take credit for it — sits at the edge of that clearing. Chelle found it the way she finds most things in the Aether-Reach: by following the particular quality of attention the place was asking of her, the pull that means something in the between-space wants to be noticed. Inside: instruments she does not have names for, a ceiling mapped with symbols she does, and on a surface that was not a table but functioned as one, a pendant she recognized immediately.

The Seal of Solomon — the hexagram, six-pointed star, the geometry that appears in sacred traditions across centuries and continents as the symbol of the meeting point between the above and the below, the macrocosm and the microcosm, the two triangles that together make the complete picture. Surrounding it: the twelve constellations of the zodiac, the wheel of the sky that the observatory was built to track, each sign in its place in the circle around the central star. The full map. She is still working out exactly why, which is, she has found, precisely the right relationship to have with a pendant that shows you the complete map and leaves the navigation to you.
