The Shadow Accord — Gothic Cross Tassel Necklace is a handmade multilayer beaded necklace with gothic cross pendants and dark tassel drops, each layer strung by hand with the kind of precision that only comes from someone who has done this in low light, under pressure, for a very long time. Luna had been in District 9 for two hours before she found it.
Not because it was hidden — it wasn't. It was hanging in plain sight on a rack outside a stall that sold things the stall owner preferred not to describe in detail. The beads were deep and light-drinking. The crosses hung with the particular weighted grace of something that has been carried a long way and arrived exactly where it was supposed to.
Luna looked at it for a long time without touching it.
In the Shadow Districts you don't touch things before you've decided. Touching is an expression of interest and interest is a negotiating position. She had learned this the hard way, years ago, in a different part of the city, over a piece she wanted considerably less than this one. She stood with her hands in her coat pockets and her green eyes moving over the layers of it — the way the beads caught the low amber light of the district lanterns, the way the tassels moved in the draft from the forge vents below, the way the crosses were scattered through all of it like a statement that had already been made and was simply waiting for someone to agree with it.
The stall keeper watched her from the shadows. Said nothing. This was also correct behavior in District 9.
Luna reached into her coat and set something on the counter without looking at him. He looked at it. Looked at her. Looked at the necklace. The silence lasted exactly as long as it needed to. Then he took what she had put down and went back into the shadows, and Luna lifted the necklace from the rack and held it in her palm and felt the weight of it — the real weight, the one that had nothing to do with the metal — and knew she had paid exactly the right price for exactly the right thing.
She came back through the portal with grey dust on her boots and the necklace wrapped in a square of dark cloth tucked inside her coat. Cinder was at the door before she had fully stepped through — not the assessment stillness, just the presence of someone who had been waiting and was not going to make a thing of it. Ash knocked a candleholder off the entry shelf and looked at the ceiling. Cinder took the blame without moving a muscle.
Luna set the cloth on the counter and unfolded it.
Chelle came from the back room. She looked at the necklace the way she looks at things that carry history — not examining it, listening to it. Her hands went still for a moment. Then she stepped back and let Luna have the counter, which is the highest compliment Chelle knows how to give.
Midnight, through the skylight, lowered his great sapphire head and rumbled once. Low. Slow. The sound that means: yes. That one.
The necklace went on the display. It will find its way to the right hands. Things found in the Shadow Districts always do. The accord was struck the moment Luna saw it hanging there in the amber light. The rest was just formality.

Is this one necklace or multiple layers?
One piece, multiple layers — it goes on as a single necklace and hangs in stacked layers. The crosses and tassels are distributed through all of them. The effect is intentional and immediate.
How dark is the hardware — is it matte or shiny?
Dark metal with the kind of finish that drinks light rather than throwing it back. The beads are deep-toned glass. Nothing here is trying to sparkle. That's the point.
What's the vibe — gothic, punk, dark aesthetic?
Yes. District 9 doesn't sort by category. Neither does this necklace. It works for stage, ritual, going out, or staying in with the candles low and Midnight rumbling on the rooftop.
Can I wear this every day or is it a statement piece?
