The tassel fringe caught the late afternoon light and moved in the Steppes wind, the way fringe does, the way it always draws the eye. She stopped. Looked at it. Picked it up.

Chelle smoothed her hair back with one hand and said nothing. Luna picked it up, held it to the light, set it back down. Okay, she said. Which is Luna for: I understand why you brought it back.
The fringe moves when you move. That is the point of fringe — it makes the body's motion visible, turns a step into something the room notices. Paired with high-waisted anything, it sits exactly right. Worn alone on a warm afternoon, it is enough.
