The doors have never latched. Not once. Not ever.
You'd think someone would fix that.
The Closet sits just on the other side of the portal — double-doored, louvered, the kind of ordinary furniture that has no business being where it is. The Harajuku-style 3D graphic tees inside are lightweight silky polyester, vivid and impossibly detailed, and there are so many of them packed into two rows that the doors gave up on closing sometime around the third shipment and never recovered. If you try to shut them — really commit to it, both hands, lean in — you can get them almost there. Almost. Walk away and come back and they're wide open again. There's usually one on the floor. Push through the middle of the two rows and they let you in. That's the thing nobody tells you the first time. They part. Easy. Like they were expecting you. Like they're glad you came. Step through and the world opens into a perfect sphere — a round, globular room with rows and rows of tees on every wall, floor to ceiling, curving all the way around. A t-shirt library. A living one.
They tend themselves. Fold. Rehang. Flit from shelf to hanger to shelf like birds, like something with purpose and no interest in explaining it. You flinch the first time one passes your shoulder. The second time you just watch. Sometimes one drifts over and hovers. Sometimes the right one simply falls at your feet and you look down and it's exactly what you would have chosen anyway.
Sometimes they rearrange the exit.
Luna will tell you that's not funny. Chelle will say she was at the desk the entire time and heard absolutely nothing. Luna spent what felt like four hours in there — wings out, human-sized, fairy again, human again, flitting shelf to shelf like one of the shirts themselves — and came out ready to level the building. Five minutes, Chelle said, checking the clock. Luna didn't go back in after a t-shirt for a month.
Dragons mid-roar. Wolves at full run. Fairies caught between worlds. Skulls that grin at something just out of frame. Band relics from nights that shook the walls. Angel warriors. Egyptian gods with scales that only tip your way if you've earned it. Every print sharp at every edge, vivid at every angle — the kind of detail that makes people stop mid-sentence and ask.
This is where they all end up, the tees that come through the portal. Sometimes they get to sit on other shelves in the store for a while. But the Closet is home. The Closet is always home.
The doors are open. One's already on the floor. You know which one it is.
