The Artist Fairies of the Aos Sí
In the oldest Irish and Celtic traditions, the fairies — the Aos Sí, the Fair Folk, the People of the Mounds — were never small. They were never cute. They were the remnant of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the divine race who walked Ireland before the world was divided into seen and unseen. When they retreated beneath the hills and into the hollow places of the earth, they did not diminish. They simply became harder to see.
The artist fairies are among the oldest of them. They paint with light instead of pigment. They sculpt with moonbeams. They leave their work on the underside of leaves, in the grain of ancient wood, in the shimmer of a dragonfly's wing — where only the curious and the open-hearted find it. To wear their image is, in the old tradition, to invite their attention. And their attention, when it comes, changes things.
Luna calls them the artist fairies. She says it with a particular kind of respect — the kind she reserves for things older than the Hall of the Three Oaths, older than the portal, older than the Attic itself. Chelle has three of these shirts. She wears a different one depending on which kind of magic she's working that day.
What Luna doesn't know yet is that Chelle has been practicing. The Earthsong stirs in her chest when she holds these shirts — a hum that feels like roots and rain and something ancient waking up. One day soon, Chelle will go small. Her glowing rainbow butterfly wings will unfurl. And she'll finally see the fairy forest the way Luna has always seen it — not as a visitor, but as one who belongs there.
