Ash noticed eventually. She came from the lower shelves and sat down beside him — not close, not touching, the precise distance that means she is there without being there, present without acknowledging that she is present, which is how Ash handles most things that matter to her. She looked at the dream catcher. She looked at the wolf. She looked at Cinder. She looked at the ceiling. She stayed.
Luna came through the portal an hour later and stopped in the doorway and looked at both of them sitting under the dream catcher and said nothing for a moment that was longer than her usual silences.
