Luna didn't explain the gloves.
She never explained anything she wore, and nobody who knew her well enough to ask already knew better. But these were the ones she reached for on the nights that mattered — the shows, the rituals, the long walks through Ravenswood when the moon was doing something interesting and Cinder and Ash were restless in the way that meant pay attention.
Black. Fingerless. All the way to the elbow.
The hollow-out pattern ran the length of them — open lacework that let the cold in just enough to remind you it was there, that you were out in it, that you'd chosen to be. She pulled them on in the dark without looking, the way you do with something you've worn so many times it's become part of the ritual itself. They went on smooth. Stayed put. The fabric had enough stretch to move with her without bagging at the wrist or bunching at the elbow — the kind of fit that doesn't announce itself because it doesn't need to.
Cinder lifted her head from the floor and watched.
Luna flexed her fingers. The gloves held their shape. She turned her arm slowly, the hollow pattern catching the candlelight in a way that made the shadows move across her skin like something alive.
She picked up her jacket and left without a word.
The wolves followed.
Some things don't need an explanation. They just need to be worn by the right person.
