Luna came through the portal with desert sand still in her boots and a look on her face that she reserves for places that have genuinely impressed her — which is rare. Her wolves shook gold dust from their coats onto the cedar floor. She set three pendants on the table without a word and let them speak for themselves.

Chelle leaned in. Each ankh caught the candlelight differently — one cool and silver, one warm as sunbaked stone, one dark as the space between stars.
