The Observatory keepers of the Aether-Reach don't use maps the way travelers do.
They use territories. Each zodiac sign governs a region of the Reach — a domain where the entities of that sign live, trade, and process the crystal rain that falls during their ruling planet's dominance. The Celtic knot is the boundary marker. The ancient druids who crossed into the Reach through the ley line portals learned to read these borders the way sailors read coastlines — not as walls, but as information. This is Scorpio territory. Here the Mars rain falls in bloodstone and garnet. Here the entities are precise and patient and not to be approached during drought. The knot tells you where you are. The sign tells you what the sky is doing there.
Chelle brought the first one back as a navigation reference. Hung it above the crystal display, in the spot where the afternoon light hits the wall at exactly the right angle to make the Celtic knot border catch. She didn't think much about it at the time. It was her sign. It belonged on her wall. It also happened to be the most accurate map of the Aether-Reach's zodiac territories she'd found rendered in a form she could hang.
People started asking about it almost immediately. Not where she got it — they assumed it came through the portal, which it did — but whether she had others. Whether they could get their sign.
She went back through the portal and came back with the full set. All twelve territories. All twelve signs. The complete map of the Reach, rendered in round aluminum with Celtic knot borders, waterproof and rust-resistant and built to last as long as the stars that govern it.
Chelle understands the zodiac the way she understands crystals and pendulums and the particular quality of light on the Steppes at dawn — not as decoration, but as language. Each sign is a complete cosmology. A way of saying: this is where the sky was when you arrived. This is what the heavens were doing the moment you became yourself. Hung on a wall, it doesn't just decorate the space. It declares something about the person who lives in it. It marks the territory.
Midnight approves of all twelve. He has a preference for the ones that catch the light, which is most of them, which is very on-brand for a sapphire dragon who has been reading the sky since before the druids found the portal.
The stars were doing something specific the moment you arrived. This is how you put that on a wall.
