The triple moon is her symbol in the Reach the way the ankh is the portal's symbol and the armillary sphere is the Observatory's symbol — not decoration, but language. The waxing crescent is the Maiden: possibility, beginning, the future not yet crystallized out of the falling rain. The full moon is the Mother: fullness, power, the present moment held at its peak. The waning crescent is the Crone: wisdom, release, the future already read and set down, the crystal consumed and the fate delivered. All three at once. The whole wheel in a single line.

Chelle came through the portal on a full moon night, which is when the veil is thinnest and the things that come through carry the most weight. She had been deep in the Aether-Reach — further than she usually goes, to the older territories where the crystal formations are ancient and the entities that move among them predate the zodiac entirely.
