From the Caravans of the Gilded Road

Beyond the eastern edge of Aetheria, where the meadows give way to amber plains that stretch without horizon, there moves a people who have never built a city. They are called the Soraveen — the Wandering Bright — and they carry their entire civilization on their backs, in their songs, and around their necks.

The Soraveen believe that a woman's adornment is her autobiography. Every piece she wears tells the story of where she has been, what she has survived, and what she has chosen to carry forward. To receive a collar from a Soraveen elder is among the highest honors their culture offers. It means she has seen something in you worth remembering.

Chelle came through the portal at golden hour, her auburn hair catching the last of the afternoon light, her arms full of something that clinked and shimmered with every step. She had been gone longer than usual — three hours by the Attic's clock, though she said it felt like three days on the other side.

"I found the Soraveen camped at the edge of the Amber Plains," she said, setting the pieces down on the oak table one by one. Each collar landed with a sound like distant bells. "They were packing up to move again. The elder — a woman named Sova Ren Mira — pressed these into my hands before I could say a word. She said the portal had been calling to her for weeks. That these pieces were meant to cross over."

Chelle's blue eyes were still glowing faintly — the earth magic stirred by proximity to something genuinely ancient. She picked up one of the collars and held it to the candlelight. The metal caught every flicker, throwing warm gold across the cedar walls.

"Sova Ren Mira told me something before I left," Chelle said quietly. "She said: 'The woman who wears this will never be invisible again. Not because the collar demands attention — but because it reminds her that she was never meant to be small.'"

Midnight landed on the windowsill as she spoke, folding his sapphire wings with unusual gentleness. Even he seemed to understand that something significant had just come through.
