Found in the Lodge at the Edge of the Portal

There is a building on the other side of the portal that has no windows. It sits at the precise point where three ley lines converge — a fact that the Attic's portal seems to have known long before anyone on this side did. The locals call it The Lodge of the Unseen Compass. Its members call themselves the Wardens of the Threshold. They have been meeting there, in that windowless room, for longer than the town around it has existed.

They do not recruit. They do not advertise. They leave signs.

Chelle noticed the building first — she always notices the places that hum. She stood outside it for a long moment, her earth magic moving through the soles of her boots and into the stone beneath, reading the ley lines like a pulse. "Something has been decided here," she said quietly. "Many times. Over many years."

Luna tried the door. It opened.

Inside, the walls were covered floor to ceiling in the symbols of the Wardens — the square and compass, the all-seeing eye, the pillars of wisdom and strength, the level and the plumb. Not painted. Cast in metal and mounted with the precision of people who understood that the placement of a symbol is as important as the symbol itself. And on the central table, arranged as if left deliberately, were a series of 8x8 tin signs — each one bearing the full iconography of the Lodge, rendered in the warm, worn palette of something that has survived long enough to become legend.

There was no one in the room. There never is, when the portal opens to the Lodge. The Wardens leave things for the Attic on purpose — they always have. They understand, better than most, that some knowledge is meant to travel.

"They know about us," Luna said, picking up one of the signs.

"They've always known about us," Chelle replied. "I think they helped build the portal."

Neither of them said anything else. Some revelations deserve silence.
