In the old stories — the ones told before cities swallowed the dark — the wolf was never the villain. The wolf was the one who knew where the fire was going before anyone else did. The wolf ran toward the storm, not away from it. The wolf understood something the rest of the world had forgotten: that the pack is not a comfort. It is a force.

Luna called it the night of the Blaze.

The wolves came from every direction — silver and shadow, moving through the mist like something between a dream and a warning. They weren't howling. They were running. All of them, together, toward something none of them could name but all of them could feel. The kind of pull that doesn't ask permission. The kind that just moves you.

Chelle watched from the Attic window, Midnight coiled warm around her shoulders, his sapphire scales catching the last of the candlelight. She had seen Luna's wolves run before. She knew what it meant when they moved like that — not scattered, not frantic, but together, with that low, certain gravity that belongs to things that have already decided. She didn't try to stop it. She didn't need to. Some forces don't require direction. They only require witness.

"They're not running from something," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.

Luna was already at the door, her dark wings folded tight, Cinder and Ash circling the steps below. She didn't look back.

"They never are," she said. And then she was gone into the dark with them, and the Blaze began.

The shirt came through the portal the next morning. Luna picked it up and held it to the light. The wolves on the print were mid-run — every one of them, caught in the exact moment before the world catches up. She ran her hand across the graphic. The detail was extraordinary. Sharp lines, deep color, the kind of print that doesn't soften or blur at the edges. The fabric had weight without heaviness — the kind that moves with you rather than against you.

She pulled it on. It settled like it had always been there.

"Still warm," she said.
